[Rails 6.0: Yes, It's a Big One!](https://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2019/8/15/Rails-6-0-final-release/) — Rails 6 is out! At this point, you’ve probably heard of all the big, new features so just take it out for a spin and thank the core team. Alternatively, if you need a quick reminder:

- **[Action Mailbox](https://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2018/12/13/introducing-action-mailbox-for-rails-6/)** makes routing incoming emails as easy as routing HTTP requests.
- **[Action Text](https://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2018/10/3/introducing-action-text-for-rails-6/)** brings the tried and tested [Trix](https://trix-editor.org/) rich text editor into Rails.
- **[Multiple database support](https://www.citusdata.com/blog/2019/05/23/rails-6-multiple-databases/)** will make a lot of previously [tricky data patterns](https://prathamesh.tech/2019/08/13/rails-6-multi-database-part-two/) a lot easier to set up.
- **[Parallel testing](https://blog.bigbinary.com/2019/04/29/rails-6-adds-parallel-testing.html)** will help you get the most out of all those CPU cores and make testing faster.
- **Webpacker** is now the default JavaScript bundler.
- **[Zeitwerk](https://medium.com/@fxn/zeitwerk-a-new-code-loader-for-ruby-ae7895977e73)** is the new automatic code loader used in Rails.
- And [a](https://blog.bigbinary.com/2019/07/15/rails-6-adds-annotate-to-activerecord-relation-queries.html), [lot](https://blog.bigbinary.com/2019/07/09/rails-6-adds-hooks-to-activejob-around-retries-and-discards.html), [more](https://blog.bigbinary.com/2019/07/03/rails-6-adds-support-for-multi-environment-credentials.html), [besides.](https://blog.bigbinary.com/2019/06/24/rails-6-adds-array-extract.html)

[strongDM Makes Managing DB Access a Breeze](https://www.strongdm.com/ruby-weekly/) — See why Splunk's CISO says "strongDM gives you what you can’t get any other way - the ability to see what happens, replay and analyze incidents, discriminate customer access from user access."

[`rest-client` and Other Gems Yanked Due to Malicious Code](https://github.com/rest-client/rest-client/issues/713) — The problem is now resolved, but the `rest-client` maintainer’s Rubygems.org account was hacked and versions 1.6.10-1.6.13 contained a malicious backdoor. Ensure you are not using it, and set up [multi-factor authentication](https://guides.rubygems.org/setting-up-multifactor-authentication/) on your own Rubygems.org account to help avoid similar issues. A variety of other, less popular gems have [also been affected](https://www.zdnet.com/article/backdoor-code-found-in-11-ruby-libraries/), all with relatively (thankfully) fewer downloads.

REST-Client Maintainers

[Jekyll 4.0.0 Released](https://jekyllrb.com/news/2019/08/20/jekyll-4-0-0-released/) — Breaking changes (dropping support for things like RedCarpet), Ruby 2.4.0 or higher required, and some new caching optimizations are all in this release of the popular Ruby-based static site generator.

Matt Rogers

[Sinatra 2.0.6 Released](http://sinatrarb.com/2019/08/21/sinatra-2.0.6.html) — It’s not a big release ([changelog](https://github.com/sinatra/sinatra/blob/v2.0.6/CHANGELOG.md)) but _any_ release for the popular web development library/DSL is worth checking out. Jordan Owens has also joined the core team and is focusing on v3.0 work.

[Highlights from Git 2.23: New Alternatives for `git checkout`](https://github.blog/2019-08-16-highlights-from-git-2-23/) — Yes, there’s a new version of `git`. The biggest tweak comes via two new commands, `git switch` and `git restore` which aim to break down the `git checkout` experience into something more controllable.
