It’s a neat snapshot of how much incremental performance work has landed in CRuby in the past year.

[Ruby Central Modernizes Its Bylaws (and Reshuffles Its Officers)](https://rubycentral.org/news/modernizing-ruby-centrals-bylaws-and-officer-updates/) — Ruby Central has rewritten [its bylaws](https://storage.ghost.io/c/17/0a/170a5cb5-5524-4ba0-93b6-f17fc9bacca6/content/files/2026/06/Ruby-Central-Bylaws--2026.06.05-.pdf) _(PDF)_ to formalize participatory governance, committees, and transparency requirements. Five ‘steering committees’ will formally launch at [RubyConf](https://rubyconf.org/) next month.

Ran Craycraft (Ruby Central)

💡 In a further update, Ruby Central's board of directors [explains how community participation will actually work](https://rubycentral.org/news/governance-expanding-participation-in-ruby-central/).

**⚡️ IN BRIEF:**

- 🔒 Ruby Central has received a grant to [fund a team of Security Engineers in Residence](https://rubycentral.org/news/strengthening-security-for-the-ruby-ecosystem/) to find vulnerabilities in gems and make reports.
- The [gem.coop](https://gem.coop/) gem registry/server has officially [launched its support for namespaces](https://gem.coop/updates/7/) and you can reserve your own today.
- With the release of the Ruby 3.1-compatible [JRuby 9.4.15.0](https://www.jruby.org/2026/06/08/jruby-9-4-15-0.html), JRuby 9.4 enters EOL (end-of-life). [JRuby 10](https://www.jruby.org/2026/04/21/jruby-10-1-0-0.html) is the current, Ruby 4.0-targeting version.

[Add `Proc#with_refinements` to Ruby](https://bugs.ruby-lang.org/issues/22097) — Ruby’s longest serving core team member (bar Matz!) has implemented _block-level_ refinements, so extensions made to a class only take effect within a new proc returned by `with_refinements`, with the original proc unaffected. There’s [a PR](https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/17248/changes) if you want to play.

[Rails ERD 2.0: Turn Your Rails Models into a Diagram](https://github.com/voormedia/rails-erd/releases/tag/v2.0.0) — After a few years dormant, Rails ERD is back to turn your modern Rails apps’ models into entity-relationship diagrams. Say goodbye to the complex Graphviz dependency; 2.0 uses the popular [Mermaid](https://mermaid.ai/open-source/) format (which can render directly in GitHub `README`s).
